When someone walks into your space with a vibrant aura, it’s not something you can ignore because it’s something that is felt on an energetic level.
Brett is one of those guys. One of those people you meet and are left thinking that you may have already known them for a longer period of time. Anyway without getting carried away, Brett walked into our shop to grab some biltong packs to take with him to South Africa.
Taking biltong from The Netherlands to South Africa is already a strange notion but for us it was feather in our cap.
Not only because Runder was his snack of choice to aid him on route running the infamous Comrades Marathon… (Quick side track: The Comrades Marathon is an ultramarathon of approximately 90 kilometres held annually in the KwaZulu-Natal province of South Africa, running between the cities of Durban and Pietermaritzburg. It is the world's largest and oldest ultramarathon race.
The race direction alternates each year between the "up" run, covering 87.6 km starting from Durban (elevation: 101 metres / 331 feet), and the "down" run, covering 90 km starting from Pietermaritzburg (elevation: 921 metres / 3,022 feet).
Since 1988, over 10,000 runners have finished within the allowed 11 or 12 hours in all but three editions. From the 1980s onward, the growing number of participants has been accompanied by notable increases in both average finish times and the average age of finishers.(for this who don't know the Comrades Marathon)
… but also to learn that is was his 29th time running this race. The man knows what he’s doing and if his energy wasn’t enough to pull us in, his determination and will to endure and enjoy while doing so was even more of a pull.
This character type is rare and inspiring to say the least. Thank you for sharing what you have with us Brett! You are a legend and an inspiration.
Brett finished his Comrades pain free in 10 hours and 18 minutes. Well done mate.
